Board certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology, Erik Thyssen, MD, currently sees patients at Specialists in Gastroenterology. He is dedicated to providing high-quality care to those living in and around St. Louis, Missouri.
Dr. Thyssen was born and raised in Denmark. After completing his medical degree, his desire to further his education led him to relocate to the United States and complete his internal medicine training at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He then completed his gastroenterology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
At Specialists in Gastroenterology, Dr. Thyssen sees adults with gastrointestinal disorders and uses endoscopic techniques in early detection and treatment.
Dr. Thyssen and his wife, Carin, have three sons. Outside of work, he enjoys playing tennis and watching his wife perform on stage.

It could not have been better, Amy inserted the IV and I did not feel a thing. Doctor Thyssen remembered me from 5 years ago, or he made it feel that way, very open and answered any question PLUS stopped by when I awoke. Got a call on Friday asking how I was. Appt. Was to discuss and assess NAFLD. Dr. Thyssen is a very competent doctor, expert in his field. He explains everything calmly, honestly and thoroughly. His bedside manner is better than about 75% of the doctors I have seen over the years. I am confident in his ability to address my situation!
Staff and Doctor were all great at keeping me informed and were very detailed regarding medical history prior to my procedures. Was keep very comfortable, both physically and mentally regarding all aspects during the treatment.
Dr. Thyssen is the first GI I've had who actually took the time to listen to me and make feel heard. He took the time to talk with me, go over my 15 years worth of records, and create a treatment plan. I would 10/10 recommend him for anyone seeking a GI doctor who cares!

I see Dr. Thyssen and he is certifiably the best and most thorough gastroenterologist I have ever seen. I don’t ever feel rushed, he answers all my questions, explains my medical problems, plus he is a very compassionate doctor. I wish other doctors were more like this top doc.
